Types Of Letterpress Printing

by | Jan 3, 2022

Letterpress printing is a popular form of printing that has been around for hundreds of years. It’s a great way to add some flair and personality to your marketing materials, but it can also be used in other ways too! Here are the basics on what letterpress printing is and how you can use it.

There are three main types of letterpress printing that you should know about –

Relief – The relief printing process is the most common form of letterpress. This technique offers a three-dimensional look and feels to your design, with raised impressions that create depth in every panel just like an illustration would have on paper!

Intaglio – Intaglio is an amazing medium to make prints with because it has a beautiful texture and depth. Intaglio printers use heat-based ink, which gets melted into the surface of the paper before being pressed against other surfaces or parts that have been engraved by hand in this technique such as metal plates. Traditionally intagliations were used for printing patterns onto textiles but nowadays most people associate them more closely with fine art than anything else due to its versatility – you can create different effects depending on how deep your lines go!

Planographic – The technique of letterpress printing is a centuries-old process that has been used to produce some really beautiful pieces. These particular prints are known as “planographic” because they have the shape and size similar in design or outline layout, like maps for instance; this specific kind was developed back when movable type wasn’t yet available so printers would use lead plates instead!

Letterpress printing is an old-school way of making books, cards, stationery, and other paper goods. It’s a type of relief printmaking that uses letterforms to create text on the page with ink. A platen will press down onto metal or wood letters inked up by hand to make impressions on paper.
